After nearly 20 years at Jetco, a GTI Group company, Jeff McKinney can safely say what he likes best about the carrier: “It’s nothing but a safety culture here. It’s in our DNA. It’s a non-negotiable value.”
As the Vice-President of Enterprise Safety & Compliance, safety is something McKinney knows inside and out. He’s responsible for maintaining Jetco’s high safety standards in all four of its divisions, and ensuring the carrier meets its own safety goals every day. That’s why McKinney knew that for Jetco’s safety culture to thrive, safety and compliance were best managed via the right software.
The Challenge
Jetco, a GTI group company, needed software that didn’t just manage safety and compliance. It had to be customizable to the carrier’s specific needs. Most of all, it had to come with exemplary customer service. And at first, the options they came across fell short of expectations.
McKinney says the first software they used left a bad taste in their mouths. “The company said we had to set up the platform their way. And that just wasn’t what we wanted. It didn’t mix with us. It didn’t feel right with people trying to tell us how to do it, when we’d rather have someone that listens. The customer service just wasn’t there.”
The Solution
Ultimately, the need for quality customer service is why Jetco choose TruckRight over other options on the market. “The customer service stands out,” McKinney says, with high praise for TruckRight’s cofounder Dirk Kupar. “He’s the only one, out of all the options, who understands because he was a driver. The other ones are all these computer whizzes and developers. Dirk’s been there, he’s done that, and he listens.” McKinney jokingly added, “I pick on Dirk on the time, but he takes it.”
Dirk is the only one, out of all the options, who understands because he was a driver. He’s been there, he’s done that, and he listens."
McKinney also has praise for the TruckRight training team, who got the Jetco team up and running. “As many times as our team needed training, they were there to help. If it takes 90 times, TruckRight is going to take 90 times.”
TruckRight’s highly configurable platform played a huge role in the decision as well. “(During recruiting), we can put in the blocks we need, the qualifications we need, and it washes the drivers who don’t have them. I like the way it’s laid out. We’re about to start using the monthly maintenance reports, and that’s probably going to save us time with both the compliance department and the drivers”
Results:
McKinney’s words are simple: “It’s very clear. TruckRight has improved safety and compliance. And it’s saved time on all sides.” It’s also reduced Jetco’s onboarding time, brought everyone on the same page, and it’s brought the carrier the customer support they were looking for.
“When we have questions, we call, and we get it sorted out,” McKinney says.
McKinney’s advice to other carriers considering TruckRight is also simple: “I tell them look, this platform was created by someone who understands and who drove a truck, and this is just what they do. It was created by people who understand trucking.”
“It sells itself. When you have something as good as TruckRight, you want it to be a good virus and let it spread.”
